1. Who We Are

EmpowerHer is a mentorship programme run by Can You Association ("Ти можеш ли"), co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ KA210 programme. The programme connects women with experienced mentors across Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey.

2. What Data We Collect

We collect personal data only when you voluntarily submit a form on this website:

• Mentor & Mentee Applications — name, email address, country, age, professional background, availability, skills, values, and goals.
• Connection Requests — name, email address, and optional phone number and message when you request to connect with a mentor.

We do not collect data via cookies beyond a language preference cookie (see Section 6).

3. Why We Collect It (Legal Basis)

We process your data on the basis of your explicit consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), given when you submit a form. The data is used exclusively to:

• Match mentors and mentees based on compatibility (professional field, availability, values);
• Communicate with you about your application status;
• Facilitate initial contact between matched pairs;
• Fulfil our obligations under the Erasmus+ programme grant agreement.

4. How We Store and Protect Your Data

Application data is stored in a password-protected MySQL database on our hosting server. Access is restricted to authorised members of the Can You team. Emails are sent via encrypted SMTP (TLS). We do not share your data with third parties except as required to operate the programme (e.g. matching you with a mentor).

We retain application data for the duration of the EmpowerHer programme and up to 2 years after its conclusion, after which it is deleted.

5. Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Union, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you;
• Rectify inaccurate data;
• Erase your data ("right to be forgotten");
• Restrict or object to processing;
• Data portability — receive your data in a structured format;
• Withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

6. Cookies

This website uses one functional cookie: googtrans, which stores your language preference (English, Bulgarian, Turkish, or Greek). This cookie is set only when you select a language and is not used for tracking or advertising. It expires at the end of your browser session.

We do not use analytics, advertising, or any third-party tracking cookies.

7. Third-Party Services

We use Google Translate to provide translations of page content. When this service is active, Google may process the text of the page according to Google's Privacy Policy. Translations are provided for convenience only; the original English content is authoritative.

8. Children's Privacy

The EmpowerHer programme is open to participants aged 16 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
